The Whistle-Blower's Confession is an environmental thriller novella written by Jennifer Lang. Aunt Helee was everything to Kelley. She had raised her niece when Kelley's parents were killed in an auto accident, and supported her studies through the collegiate level. When Aunt Helee died from cancer after a long and grueling struggle, Kelley decided to try to do something about the alarming rise in diagnoses of cancer. She used her college training in journalism and her experience as a reporter to start researching just what was going on. Her first step was visiting her aunt's oncologist, but Kelley found her to be unreceptive and just too busy managing her patient load. A helpful nurse, however, gave Kelley some preventative measures to take, including avoiding GMO foods.
Jennifer Lang's environmental thriller novella, The Whistle-Blower's Confession, follows an investigative reporter's efforts to learn more about the effects of genetic modification on food and nutrition, and explore how the pressure exerted by the giants of industry has made the government complicit in their actions. Lang's writing style is casual yet compelling as she sets out both the investigative finds and the risks taken by her young reporter in the pursuit of truth. Some episodes in the story are chilling and horrific, especially the Agent Orange incident, which called to mind the life story and mysterious death of the environmental activist, Karen Silkwood. This story also left me wondering if I was doing quite enough to eat clean and unprocessed foods. The Whistle-Blower's Confession thrills as it educates, and it just might be a life-saver for some. It's highly recommended.
