The White Death by Daniel Rafferty is an exhilarating race against extinction. The human race is dying. Genetic mutations are multiplying. Genetic hatred floods the hearts and minds of mankind, society is decaying. The battle of pro-life advocates versus pro-evolution supporters rages. The future is in the hands of the newly elected US President, Thomas Kevin Morgan. America can’t handle this crisis alone; the world needs to join together. President Morgan plans to use his executive power to make a difference. There has been too much talk, not enough action from world leaders. Something must be done, now! After only a couple of days in office, President Morgan is told about Section 51. He learns what most of the world doesn’t know; humans have been monitored by an alien alliance since 1903. Deep beneath Area 51 in Nevada is an experimental laboratory. This is the home of Freda, Earth’s only alien resident. In this secret facility, Freda is joined by an elite scientific team, headed up by Dr. Peter Roberts. They are on the brink of medical discovery to reverse the genetic mutation. The alien council is planning an intervention, but what they initiate results in global outrage and a fight for survival.

Daniel Rafferty is a brilliant storyteller. The White Death is a gripping science fiction thriller. It read like a movie! Mr. Rafferty pens an elaborate tale of survival; it is a blend of Independence Day, Men in Black, with a hint of X-Men. Rafferty writes the science with ease, making it real, yet understandable. The flow is never broken while explaining the scientific detail. The narrative’s plot device is unique and the lead characters are strong, lucid and admirable. The conflict is life over death, a fight to exist when death is imminent. This conflict brings out the best in the characters, from the US President, the scientific community, to the world’s military, each one depicting their survival instinct. If there is a weak link in this story, it would be the Alien Alliance. The antagonist is the disease; it attacks the weak, the innocent, and the unborn. Then when you think it couldn’t get worse, the characters have to fight the disease and a pandemic virus. All of this action transpires in a week! The plot twist is genius. Shockingly wonderful. The White Death keeps you engaged until the very end.

In The White Death by Daniel Rafferty, the year is 2039 and humans are on the verge of extinction due to genetic defects that threaten the race. With the deterioration of the human gene pool becoming more and more alarming each day, a council of superior extraterrestrial beings has a plan to cleanse Earth and rid it of the defective blood by ensuring that only those with clean genes can reproduce; only the challenge is that 99% of the population is not clean. Freda, an alien living on Earth and working with humans, feels differently. Freda has learnt from past mistakes and is against direct intervention, but rather prefers to just guide the humans as they struggle to find a cure. She is, in every way, against the council's decision. These plans, although brutal and cold, might be the only chance of reviving humanity. But what will happen when the well intended manipulation hits an unexpected malfunction that sends the world into chaos?

The White Death by Daniel Rafferty is a thrilling story that breathes fresh life into the way alien stories are told. Politics, sci-fi, intrigue, suspense and drama, this book has it all and even more; and Daniel Rafferty blended it all perfectly to give the reader an unforgettable story. The unique and refreshing plot is brought to life through a compelling setting, a captivating story line, and memorable characters. There is something exceptional about the way Daniel Rafferty wrote the book that brought the scenes to their full potential to give the reader an amazing thrill.

The White Death is a science fiction novel by Daniel Rafferty in the alien apocalypse sub-genre. Focusing on the web of contacts surrounding future president Thomas Kevin Morgan, the plot centers on a threat delivered by an alien council which controls a large portion of the wider galaxy around Earth. With only one friendly alien on staff – known as Freda – the president’s Section 51 research team begins to investigate a lethal virus quickly spreading across the planet. In the wider world, chaos abounds as humanity quests for its own selfish survival, with humans hurting each other the world over. Meanwhile, the government must make some harrowing choices in order to defeat the threat before the whole of the human race is wiped from the galaxy for good.

Sometimes alien novels can verge on the ridiculous for those not familiar with the genre, but Daniel Rafferty makes a compelling argument for realistic alien fiction. Though the threat is extra-terrestrial in origin, the plot of The White Death is a distinctly human story, focusing on the suffering of a race under pressure and the heart-breaking duties that the characters act out in order to contain the virus. Deviations into politics, military, defence, science and research ground the action in a convincing Earth of the not too distant future, creating a highly visual narrative of global disaster. Fans of dialogue-driven action novels and political thrillers are sure to enjoy The White Death’s new alien twist on those genres, whilst die-hard sci-fi fans can sink their teeth into a read with real emotional depth.
