In The World Carried On by Channing H Cornwall, Earth has been devastated at the hands of mankind, leaving those who survived to endure the aftermath. Twins Marlin and Marek find out their parents are infected by a disease known as the Black Rot. They have been given the choice to be exiled from the community to live out the rest of their days in the countryside or be placed in The Decrement House, a place where their children can at least visit them as their disease progresses. A voice has reached out to Marlin, prompting the twins to trek to the Ruined City in search of a cure for the Black Rot before they lose any more of their family and friends to the horrible disease. Is the Ruined City poisoned as the humans believe it to be? Could Hera really have the cure for the Black Rot disease that is plaguing the Kinships? With humanoid beasts intent on reclaiming the land from the humans, can they reach the Ruined City without getting themselves killed? Will the leader of the Kinship allow them back if they are successful in their mission?

I loved The World Carried On by Channing H Cornwall. The plot is well developed and interesting with characters that are easy to understand and enjoy as they attempt to survive in spite of the devastation the world has suffered. I recommend The World Carried On to anyone who loves the action and adventure of a post-apocalyptic life on Earth set in the distant future. Between characters fighting for survival against a deadly disease and battling with strange humanoid animals, this book is a page-turner that will keep the reader wondering who will live or die in this brave and treacherous new world. Cornwall writes with such a smooth and descriptive style that keeps the action and suspense flowing in this imaginative and creative story. The plot will keep the reader engrossed in the battles, the fear of the unknown and the unique connections the twins share that send them into the dangers of the wilderness. The World Carried On is a good bet for anyone who enjoys reading about a post-apocalyptic future.
