To Find... Again: A Poem Anthology by Shemique Blair is a collection of the author's original work, harnessed by the experiences of her life in raw, honest verse. There is a gradual progression in the way that the entire compilation is formatted, beginning with a relationship nearing its end with a huge heartbreak and culminating after the processing of grief, working on oneself, and rebuilding with the dawn of something new and beautiful. The poems are stylized as free verse, but within them, they have distinct techniques. For example, A Love Letter to Me is almost like a conversation—a self-affirmation acknowledging past pain but celebrating personal growth and resilience. More formally, Healing of the Heart is a metaphorical piece, comparing love to natural elements and portraying it as ever-present, requiring openness and faith to experience.
Shemique Blair's To Find...Again is a mosaic of emotions. Each piece resonates with an innate understanding of the human experience, whether maneuvering the paths of sorrow, embracing the sparks of newfound love, or considering the complex nature of any relationship. For me, what sets this anthology apart is the blend of vulnerability with strength, where solace and guidance are offered in equal measure. My favorite was Honored to be Loved, which expresses gratitude for a partner's sincere love, acknowledging the depth and authenticity of their affection. Blair's verses are likely to feel like empathetic companions to readers, bringing validation and understanding to the wounded heart and inspiration to those seeking to rebuild. A must-read for anyone on their journey to rediscovery.
