Jessica lives in a dream to escape the unhappiness of her father's death. She soars over a tiny island as a bird looking compulsively for something. A strong desire to know more grips her when she is awakened and finds she has been transformed into a sea eagle. The shock and horror forces her to stay in her room and miss school. Her new body poses a lot of challenges, like the sharp talons that destroy new furnishings in her room! Her mother's calm acceptance of her transformation shocks her further! Jessica's mother is actually proud that Jessica has inherited her grandfather's gift and regrets the fact that she herself was incapable of transforming. She acquaints Jessica with the family history which the girl finds fascinating! Feeding herself human food without human body parts poses unique challenges and her frustrations increase as she is confined to the house. Soon she finds out she has to go to a training school for creatures like her and an owl man escorts her to the school! Human needs like back pack full of clothes and personal belongings are extraneous in her new and strange world. Leaving almost everything behind, including her family, for the first time, she flies into the unknown where adventure awaits her!

The book makes for an interesting read and like the heroine, Jessica, a strong desire to know more grips the reader! The author's strong commitment to save the planet is reflected in the story. She has also done well in bringing out the desperate fight of the animals to stop man's unceasing destruction of forests in a unique way!
