People are different from each other. Some have blue eyes and some have red hair. Some are fair and some are brown, and everyone is unique and special in their own way. Seeing someone different can be scary at first but if a little time is taken to understand the person, there might not be that many differences. Anna is different. She sits in a special chair and she does not talk. That makes her different from the others. Anna's friends help her in school to go around in her special chair. It is the same story with Joshua. His brain works differently and special therapists are helping him learn how to make words. Charlie is a grown-up but he acts like a kid. He lives in a special place built just for people like him.

Anna, Joshua, and Charlie live in a community where they are loved and safe. Their friends support them and happiness is always in the air. We Are Not the Same, and That's Okay by Amanda Lamb shows how differences make Anna, Joshua, and Charlie unique and different and how it is important to reach out to people like them and become their friends. Gabriela Christine's illustrations breathe life into the characters and make them real, relatable, and tangible to young readers. The story is about accepting people with differences and empowering them to live their lives to the fullest.
