Dragons, pixies, goblins, and elves all make an appearance in Kathryn Hollingworth's book We're On a Dragon Quest. A young girl peers out her window and sees what she thinks is a dragon. She convinces her brother to join her as they head outside to investigate. As they hunt for the dragon, other mythical creatures provide them with clues. Each clue confirms that a dragon is nearby. Their trek takes them through the snowy landscape of their backyard and finally leads them to a shed. Is there really a dragon inside? They slowly open the door - what will they find? This is a fun book that will keep kids on the edge of their seats!
Fans of We're Going on a Bear Hunt will enjoy We're On a Dragon Quest. As a former children's librarian, I can envision reading this story and having the kids roar along every time the word 'dragon' is mentioned. Kathryn Hollingworth has created a rhyming tale that includes not only dragons but other imaginary creatures as well. Encouraging kids' imaginations is important. Kids will be engaged as they follow along on the siblings' dragon quest. The illustrations by Felipe Calv are wonderful. I loved the girl's frog hat with the enormous eyes. The perspective of watching the kids walking from above as they discover the dragon's footprints is outstanding. Be prepared to join your kids on their dragon quest after reading Hollingworth's tale. This book is a winner!
