Why Me? When God Is Not Your Only Choice is a slice-of-life drama by Jose Aguiar. Diana is a confident young woman who is outspoken about her beliefs. She is a psychologist at an abortion clinic and helps other women navigate a tumultuous time in their lives. After an appearance on a talk show, Diana's popularity soars to unprecedented levels. Basking in her newfound glory, she ventures out one night with her friends to a nightclub to have a good time. But things don't go according to plan as Diana returns home with no memory of what happened that night. To make her situation worse, she learns that she is pregnant, but has no idea of who the father might be. Now, as she prepares to abort her unwanted baby, Diana is visited by a stranger whose intervention forces her to look at things in a new light.
With a crisp and concise narrative, Jose Aguiar tells an engaging story about a young woman's dilemma. Why Me? touches upon a topic that is critically debated by the general populace - abortion. The author shows reasonable arguments from both sides of the fence, ultimately leaning toward pro-life. The characters are placed methodically to highlight the underlying theme of the narrative. Diana is a flawed individual whose hypocrisy shines when she struggles to undergo what she enables others to do. She came across as less pro-choice and more "do what I say, not what I do" kind of a person. This is what makes her compelling as a character. Recommended to readers who love theme-driven narratives.
