Holly Truong is in the middle of an important scientific project when she receives an urgent message notifying her of her mother's death under rather suspicious circumstances. What makes it even more surprising is that even though they have not spoken in years owing to a disagreement, her mother left her a desperate message. All roads lead to the island of Papua New Guinea, where she must piece together a series of clues her mother left behind before it is too late. Unbeknown to her, a clandestine experiment has spawned an extraterrestrial problem of cataclysmic proportions that could very well lead to the end of the world as we know it. Tinkerbell is the key, but where is the lock? Only time will tell in Vivek Pravat's Xenome.
The scientific orientation of the storyline is evident once you get into Xenome. Vivek Pravat does a commendable job of creating characters with relatable backstories linking professional success to personal struggles in a manner that creates depth the reader easily identifies and bonds with. The exotic creatures' activities are described in such vivid details that they leave little to the imagination. These are a sci-fi aficionado's dream. The combat sequences are bettered only by the spine-tingling survival activities through the jungle that immersed me completely. I might as well have been there with Holly and Lars. Pravat crafts a story that balances action and horror with such unity of purpose that once you factor in the rapid pace, you will discover you are in for the ride of your life. Xenome is simply science fiction crafted to perfection.
