Stephen Kozeniewski lives with his wife and two cats in Pennsylvania, the birthplace of the modern zombie. During his time as a Field Artillery officer he served for three years in Oklahoma and one in Iraq, where, due to what he assumes was a clerical error, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He is also a classically trained linguist, which sounds much more impressive than saying his bachelor’s is in German.

Billy and the Cloneasaurus is one of the most brilliantly constructed and elegantly written satirical stories I have ever read. The entire population of the world is made up of identical clones of a single unassuming and frequently annoying individual. All go about their tasks mechanically, and all have a lifespan of exactly a year. They have one year to live out their dull, monotonous existence before they are 'slurried' and a new clone takes their place. It was a typical death day for the 57th iteration of William 790-6. But things did not happen as they were supposed to and now William 790-6 must deal with ideas, thoughts and events that set him apart from the Earth's 6 billion other identical residents.
Stephen Kozeniewski is one uniquely disturbed individual and I mean that in the very best way possible. Mundane minds could not come up with such wickedly biting satire and lesser authors would struggle to craft such a dystopian world that is both unthinkably different, but very familiar. Horror and humor lurk underneath the matter-of-fact storytelling. Satire, social commentary, post-apocalyptic meanderings, all of these are brilliantly represented and come together in a work that just left me shell-shocked at the end. Billy and the Cloneasaurus takes a simple premise and weaves so many layers of meaning (and numerous jabs at a long list of things) that it made me immediately want to reread the book again, just to see if I missed out on anything. Billy and the Cloneasaurus is a landmark novel that I'd happily recommend to friends, and Stephen Kozeniewski is one author that I'd definitely keep my on.
