Addie Needs a Friend by Andrew Lott is a beautiful picture book for young readers. A young girl named Addie starts her first day at school. She’s nervous and afraid. She just wants to make friends but doesn’t know how. She spends most of the morning alone, and at lunch, she decides to ask her shiny spoon for advice, but gets no reply. But all of a sudden, Addie hears a giggle, and a girl appears at her table. Will this be Addie’s chance to make a friend? Or will it end in disaster? Find out in this adorable book.
Addie Needs a Friend is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve read in a while. It’s a simple story of a girl looking to make friends, and that alone is enough to grab any young reader’s attention, as most children will relate to it. Making friends is hard when you're little, so I’m glad books like these exist, as they will give children the nudge they need to put themselves out there a bit more. Not only does this book showcase how to make friends, but it also teaches confidence, which is an important factor for little ones. The illustrations are just the cutest; they definitely make the book more enjoyable to read. Brilliant work by the illustrator, Amanda Letcher. Children are going to love every page of Lott’s book, and will hopefully push themselves to make a friend or two. Keep up the great work, and keep writing books like these!
