Jannifer Powelson brings readers a nature-filled sleuth mystery in Bee in Her Bonnet. Kristen Matthews is set on helping her best friend and co-worker, Hope Johnson, have the best wedding ever. Holding it at the Nature Station is a bonus as it has a special place in both their hearts. When the groom-to-be’s great-aunt suddenly passes away the day after the bridal shower, Kristen suspects foul play. Her instincts tell her it's murder, but the who and why elude her. What follows is the uncovering of a past filled with secrets concerning dear sweet Eileen. Can Kristen and her friends solve this case before the big day without stepping on too many toes, especially those of the sheriff?

Author Jannifer Powelson has created the perfect setting with an array of sensory stimulation. The scent of wildflowers combined with oppressive heat is evident, setting the stage for some sleuthing. The characters are likable and very relatable. I enjoyed the introduction of the pollinator habitat and how earth-centric the protagonist is. The pace is steady with a daring plot that keeps you guessing until the end. Bee in Her Bonnet is written in the third-person narrative, mostly from the perspective of the leading lady. With the absence of explicit language, this mystery novel is suitable for younger readers too. This story combines the pros and cons of nature well, bringing about a perfect balance and sense of harmony. This harmony spills out onto the pages, creating an enjoyable whodunnit you simply cannot put down.
