Bertie is a bat with very poor eyesight, but that doesn’t stop him from living his life to the full. Although he sometimes struggles with not being able to see, he tries his best to keep a positive outlook. One night, Bertie gets trapped in the back of a van, having flown inside when the doors were wide open, thinking it might be a cave. The bat gets scared and criticizes himself for not being able to see, but he soon realizes that he is a strong bat who can get out of the situation safely. Joanne Moore’s Bertie the Very Blind Bat (The Bit Different Collection) is an engaging story that all children should read.
I enjoyed everything about Bertie the Very Blind Bat! The illustrations, dialogue, and Bertie himself were wonderful to experience. This is a very uplifting story that promotes being unique in who we are. Even though nobody is perfect, and there may be things we want to change about ourselves, we have a place in this world and were made for a purpose. I had such a fun time reading this book and think it will be an encouragement to all children as well as their parents. I would recommend this story by Joanne Moore to every family with young children. It is not just a fun tale about a bat, but also provides a heartwarming lesson that everyone deserves to learn and take to heart.
