Between Baby Dolls and Boyfriends: How to Successfully Navigate Your Daughter’s Tween Years by Debi Smith-Racanelli and Kendall Racanelli is a useful tool for all parents, especially moms, to bring them closer to their tweens. The years 9-12, the tween years, are challenging for most parents to deal with and the author’s insight as both a mom and a psychologist will guide all parents to find out where they are and where they would like to be when it comes to raising their tweens. The book also covers the timeless issues – uncomfortable sex talks, being embarrassed by parents, and kids’ complaints about rules and limits.
The book is a fun read with tips and suggestions on how to stay connected with their daughters during their tween years, and also how to handle issues like social media, bullies, cyber bullies, friends, and much more. The author handles a broad range of topics related to this and does so methodically and extensively in a manner that is easily applied to one’s thinking process while they go through a time filled with challenges, doubts, second-guessing, and frustrations. The love, laughter, and triumph a mother shares with her tween daughter is also highlighted, along with their psychological and physical development during those years.
The book not only gives statistical and developmental information, but also makes parents think about what their tween must be doing and gives them techniques on how to accept, understand, or modify it. Moreover, the book will help parents understand their own parenting style and be able to yoke it together with the information, giving a strong support for their daughters.
