Born With The Right To Happiness by Pride U. Confident is a work of fiction with a twofold goal: Tell an interesting surface story, and provide a deeper guide to thinking about reality, life, and the universe in a different way. What "Allegory of the Cave" is to understanding the philosophical nature of reality, so too is this book, but the characters ofTony, Ricky, Cindy, Peter, Tom, and Mr. Prato are the vehicles to get the reader there. The main character, Tony, is a man in prison for manslaughter whose cellmate is Ricky, a mentor who teaches Tony the nature of the universe. This leads to Tony's enlightening out-of-body experience, where he is given the chance to view Creation. Prior to Tony's discharge from prison, he inherits Ricky's handwritten books, full of insights, secrets, and wisdom. This is where Tony's life begins, as he yearns for his true love, Cindy. As he goes about his life trying to rebuild it and make it better, he realizes that he has more control over his life and happiness than he ever imagined. Now that his mind is open, can he ever be the same again? This is the surface story.
The deeper story is a modern philosophy that invites you to consider it along with any other ideas you may have about reality, life, the universe, and what makes you and others tick. Most of us have an inner need to understand ourselves and the larger world, reach a higher plane, and get the most out of life. Some achieve it through Yoga, meditation, Bible study, religion, philosophy, the arts, hobbies, family, friends, etc. This novel does an admirable job of achieving an ambitious goal: Understand the world, yourself, and life--while getting the most of it all. The author chooses to do this in an entertaining yet educational way, much like a parable. If you like interesting novels with symbology, archetypal characters, and an openness to new ways of thinking, make room on your bookshelf for Born With The Right To Happiness by Pride U. Confident.
