Cicada City: A Bug Club Story makes us see cicadas in a new and fascinating way through adventure and exploration. The book introduces us to three children who are good friends and neighbors: Hyacinth, Jaylen, and Sakura. Every Saturday, without exception, they get together to observe insects. From their excursions, they learn a lot, explore, use creativity to deepen their ideas, and gather information, always with a positive attitude and motivated by the desire to learn new things. They also share their discoveries with others. Gina Gallois not only tells us a fun story, but she also puts in a lot of interesting facts, making the book more practical. While the characters investigate and play, young readers also learn.
I liked this book because the world of insects is fascinating and being able to share it with children in such a fun way is something very special. I loved the notes with the fun facts because they are concrete and easy to understand. Cicada City is interesting and evokes the imagination, awakens the desire to explore, and above all can generate the desire to want to learn more about nature and insects. The illustrations are very colorful and pleasing to the eye. Gina shows us the benefits of collaboration, teamwork, and friendship. Organization among children is a good message. This is a great book to bring children closer to the world of nature and insects so that they can appreciate it in the right way.
