What is a cruxim? It is another word for a fallen angel, and in "Cruxim" by Karin Cox we are introduced to the cruxim Amedeo. He may look like an angel, but he is now a vampire hunter, slaying as many vampires as possible. It is the job of Cruxim to eliminate these vile creatures. Enter Joslyn. Amedeo saves Joslyn, who immediately views him as her guardian angel. Her love for him is evident, but he knows that this is something that should never be. He fights against the feelings that grow toward her, but his passion continues to grow. When she is turned into a vampire by his sworn enemy, his life is turned upside down. Can he really kill one who means so much to him? Is there any other way? Amedeo is not alone, as he has Sabine, a Sphinx, whose life path is similar to his. While Amedeo drinks the blood of vampires, she eats their flesh. She tries to help him deal with the turmoil that he is going through. After all, who knows better than she does? But, can she make him forget about Joslyn? And try to keep him on the right path?

After reading many books in this genre, my fear is that the next book I pick up will be a cheap knock off of something I have already read. Or, that this would be another 'sparkly' vampire novel, something that I have come to loathe. "Cruxim" by Karin Cox was certainly not that. Not only were the plot and writing great, I also loved how the author wove the story between the Cruxim, Sphinx, and Vampires into a new blend of paranormal. I would highly recommend this book!
