Five Score and Ten by Col. Bill Best begins in 1991. Twenty-two-year-old author Jennifer Lane lives in Atlanta. She witnesses the murder of Fred Jackson killed by Louis "Bull" Thatcher. Jennifer calls Mick Thompson for help. Fred Jackson, the owner of Jackson Longevity Research Center, Dr. Ed Richardson, and Tanya were about to publish research on a cancer inhibitor genetic enhancement product. Dr. Andy Stone, professor of archeology, discovers an ancient severed hand, air bubbles, and fruit with seeds intact – the tree of life. Tanya gets the seeds to germinate and mice eat the leaves, gaining youthful energy before dying. For humans, we could see full, robust health, unimaginable strength, and intelligence from the longevity formula. Bull’s boss JR, drug dealer, money launderer, human trafficker, and loan shark, is after the formula and will do whatever it takes to get it. Detective Samantha Knowles, Ed, and Mick must protect Jennifer as she holds the key to the formula. In her first selfless act ever, Jennifer takes the last dose of the experimental drug, hoping it will give her the superhuman strength to save her friends, even though it could kill her.
Five Score and Ten: End of the Sixth Age Book 1 is an action-packed thriller filled with twists, turns, and surprises. Author Col. Bill Best does an incredible job of creating an unusual and inspiring story. The interesting array of characters is well defined from the evil JR to young Jennifer. The scenes are described in detail as well as fight scenes and the various towns and cities included in the story. I especially enjoyed the thought that Bill put into creating the formula and its origin. Five Score and Ten is a great story, highly recommended to both young and old.
