Fort Nowhere, Vietnam by Arthur Wiederhold falls into the military fiction genre, a story that follows the curiosity of a photographer who wants to discover the raison d’être of the Vietnam War. Now sent to what was popularly known as Fort Nowhere, a forward Army camp in the Central Highlands, he begins his journey of discovery, following the pulse of the dedicated armies and discovering truths about the peace-loving Vietnamese. Set in the time between September 1970 and March 1971, this novel is a true record of events that actually took place, and it is interesting to read about the courage of the protagonist, the military culture, and the wonderful setting. This is a story of love and courage, of despair and hope, but above all, it is a story of self-exploration.
Arthur Wiederhold is a great writer and his reflection of the Vietnam War is a story that is entertaining and gripping. The excellent writing captures interesting and breathtaking scenes from the era and the reader is transported into a little corner of the world to re-live war history, to meet people in the midst of a deadly crisis. Readers will find adventure and love in this book. They will encounter very wonderful characters. They will journey with the protagonist as he learns about love and loyalty. Fort Nowhere, Vietnam reads like a well-researched book and the reader has no doubt that the narrator speaks from inside knowledge; yes, he writes like one who has experienced everything in this book. Readers will be pulled in by the absorbing and interesting narrative voice.
