French Kiss by Cala Edwards is a lovely mix of romance and fun! Laura, an Australian visiting her family in sunny Brisbane, has a chance encounter with lost love Jacques from Paris. The author has cleverly entwined the interests of both characters into a charming story that has the reader fighting for their relationship to work, and for them both to work out their differences.
The background setting of Brisbane, Australia, was written perfectly to create the ambiance for the couple to reignite their relationship. The mix of French dialect perfectly authenticates Jacques as the Parisian heart-throb intent on recapturing the heart of the stubborn Sydney born Laura. As a reader, I was impressed with the descriptive style that truly makes you picture these two lead characters, making you fall in love with them and constantly hoping that fate will turn in their favour for a happy ending.
The two and fro between the couple keeps you going with the right mix of emotion, desire and tension in a nice, clean way that does not overstep the mark for those who prefer clean cut romances that tug at the heart strings. Cala Edwards has a fun, easy to read, and appealing style of writing that keeps you turning pages and engages you with her characters, including the additional characters that help bring the story to life. French Kiss will have you dreaming of romance in Paris whilst craving for the relaxed sunshine of Australia; a feel good story that will leaving you smiling at the very end.
