Gizmo Goes to a Rodeo by Heidi Heisel is a fun, thought-provoking story for young readers. Gizmo, a cute and funny fluffy dog, idolizes Cowboy Ruff. This cowboy is a dog star in the show, The Tales of Cowboy Ruff. Gizmo wishes he were tough like Cowboy Ruff. Hence, when he hears that his idol is hosting a fan appreciation day, where he will be teaching them how to be cowboys, he jumps at the opportunity. He and many others dress up in cowboy attire to attend the event. Thus, when Jimmy Dean, the last attendee, wanders in without any western gear, he stands out. Aside from his lack of a costume, Jimmy Dean is also missing a back leg. Gizmo tries not to stare, but this event helps them to bond in a very meaningful way.

I enjoyed reading Gizmo Goes to a Rodeo by Heidi Heisel. More importantly, I strongly believe the intended young audience will also greatly enjoy this work. The story, structured as a series of short quartets in simple language, is appealing to new readers. Heidi’s writing is very well paced. I appreciate that she promotes the importance of self-acceptance. Heidi’s writing reminded me to take the time to understand those around me. The illustrations sprinkled throughout are cute and help to drive home some of the action scenes. I chuckled when I saw Gizmo tied up by his own lasso. I also appreciated all the photographs of the real-life dogs that the story characters are based on. I recommend this story to everyone, especially dog lovers.

Gizmo Goes to a Rodeo is a children’s picture book written by Heidi Heisel with illustrations by River Wilson. It follows Gizmo, a cute, fun-loving dog with the desire to be like his favorite TV star, Cowboy Ruff, who is tough and courageous. When Gizmo notices an advertisement announcing that Cowboy Ruff's TV show is having a fan appreciation day at the rodeo ranch, Gizmo thinks this is the perfect chance to transform himself into a real cowboy. Gizmo dresses up as a cowboy by putting on a hat, boots, and spurs. Gizmo thinks that to be a real cowboy, one should be strong and tough; however, his journey to the rodeo ranch is about to teach him otherwise. Gizmo awkwardly struggles with the lasso, makes a new friend, and meets Cowboy Ruff, who teaches him the true meaning of being a cowboy. By the end of his trip, Gizmo learns about ranch life and rodeo shows, and he decides to show kindness to his new friend by changing his life.

Gizmo Goes to a Rodeo pulls kids into the world of cowboys, but not the kind you see in movies. This story examines what it really means to be tough, showing how it’s about resilience, helping out your friends, and treating everyone with respect. There are plenty of sweet, moving moments, but also a lot of laughs when Gizmo trips up or acts goofy. Heidi Heisel’s way of telling the story really brings out how cowboys live by honor, loyalty, and dignity. Plus, the author doesn’t shy away from tougher topics, like how animals with disabilities feel and what they go through. Children will also learn about rodeos, roping, and bull riding. This is a wonderful read with great lessons, colorful art, and adorable photos of the animals mentioned in the story. I recommend sharing it with your children to teach them about self-acceptance, kindness, and embracing other people's differences.

Gizmo Goes to a Rodeo by Heidi Heisel is about a sweet puppy who wishes to be a cowboy. His dream stems from his appreciation of a particular TV character, Cowboy Ruff. Gizmo loves to watch Cowboy Ruff. When a TV advert invites viewers to come and meet Cowboy Ruff in person, Gizmo goes to the barn with other fans to meet him. Cowboy Ruff teaches Gizmo a few things on how to be a cowboy. At the barn, Gizmo also meets Jimmy Dean. However, Jimmy Dean is not friendly. Cowboy Ruff tells Gizmo that Jimmy Dean is always mean because of his past. Jimmy Dean experienced a tragedy and therefore did not trust anyone easily. All that changed when Gizmo tried to do cowboy tricks.

Gizmo Goes to a Rodeo by author Heidi Heisel is a gorgeous, sweet, and charming book for all animal enthusiasts. Some of the scenes were extremely funny. I love the story's rhymes, and I think young readers will love that too. The colorful pictures were cute and expressive, showing the events beautifully. I liked that each picture had its own page dedicated to parts of the scene, and in the form of a photo. The cast of dogs is adorable, and dog lovers will be enthusiastic to read the story in its entirety. My favorite character was Jimmy Dean, who got into plenty of shenanigans before I learnt about his backstory. Cowboy Ruff was an excellent mentor whom little Gizmo aspired to emulate.
