Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off is a work of fiction in the science fiction genre. It is suitable for the adult reading audience and was penned by author C. Scott Brown. The book follows a group of aliens who have been assigned to keep a careful eye on the Earth lest the less scrupulous races of the galaxy decide it’s an easy target. Should that happen, the planet is to be destroyed, but to their surprise, the monitoring aliens decide that they actually quite like Earth and would instead try and save it. Banding together with a group of Earthlings bent on saving humanity from itself, the aliens must convince the Earthlings to set aside their differences and stand firm in the galaxy.
Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off is a science-fiction novel with a mystery at its heart. What I enjoyed the most about this novel were its innovative ideas, and creativity was sewn into the plot, making you think deeply about the story and life. Author C. Scott Brown has a keen sense for atmosphere, which he builds through tension and clues that he delivers through clever dialogue and scenic description. Brown does a brilliant job of combining the elements of classic science fiction novels with some more unusual features that set it apart from others like it. He does this mainly through the political and social divide in the story. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this novel to fans of science fiction novels and those that enjoy mysteries with a connection to the real world. Grit Enough to Chew Your Legs Off is a work that will make you question and think more deeply about the world around you: a read that will stay with you long after you put the book down.
