Hard Kill by Bill Eckel is an action-packed sci-fi novel set in the distant future. After being exiled from Earth two hundred years ago, Transhumanists set up a colony in the dwarf planet of Eris. Faced with ever-rising costs to maintain their immortality, The Royal Council of Eris used human laborers to build their infrastructure. Now divided into the Uploaders led by Dmitri Petronovich and the Purists supporting Count Palatine Bernard D'Arcy, the humans, a.k.a. , Fleshies, face extinction. Embroiled in a high-stakes war for survival is Lieutenant Aric Jeffson, a twenty-two-year-old Peacekeeper whose family supports the secret Emigration Society. After being turned into a cyborg, Aric finds himself inadvertently drawn into the revolution as members of the Royal Council continue their vendetta against the Fleshies. But can Aric control his own mind anymore?
Bill Eckel's futuristic sci-fi tale of revolution and war hooks you in from the first page and holds your attention till the last. Brimming with action and political intrigue, Hard Kill leaves you breathless with a relentlessly fast-paced narrative without a single dull moment. The plot moves in unexpected ways with twists and turns that make you turn the pages with eager anticipation of what's to come. Aric's evolution from an idealist who followed the law by the book to an all-out revolutionary leading the rebellion felt riveting to read. I particularly enjoyed Aric's dynamic with Kurtz and his father, Leal. Anyone who loves to read action-packed sci-fi books should give Hard Kill a shot.
