How She Makes Boring Fun by Tomac Scott is a wonderful story about a little girl named Breanna, who receives an electronic tablet as a gift. At first, Breanna is thrilled and never wants to be parted from it. But then her father gives her a great opportunity to find a much better way to entertain herself. He also helps her find her way into the wonderful world of imagination. What I found most exciting about this book is how the father-and-daughter relationship is such a key part of the story. It’s such a beautiful thing to see their closeness and openness. Breanna’s father is most patient with her frustration and doesn’t hesitate to help his daughter understand the concept of imagination in all the ways that he can. Readers won't want to miss their wonderful adventures together.
The story is illustrated by Renata Zamaltdinova, and what brilliant, energetic, and colorful illustrations they are. Each scene is alive and vivid. Each one brings Breanna’s thoughts to life so that young readers are right there with her in her adventures. It’s so good to read a story like this one where a child is learning about the wonderful, unlimited power of imagination that is contained within. This power is just waiting for the right encouragement to come out and play and create wonderful worlds and adventures, all without the need for electronic devices. How She Makes Boring Fun is a book I highly recommend for children and parents alike. Thank you, Tomac Scott, for this inspiring children’s book.
