How to Make Insurance Work for You: Your Personal Finance Guide by David Okonah provides an excellent overview of the various types of insurance to consider in planning your financial future and protecting your assets. The book is not to replace the use of a financial consultant; in fact, Mr. Okonah often recommends consulting an insurance agent or financial planner, but a resource to help the non-professional understand the terminology and considerations when planning for protection. The book covers all the major insurance considerations, including the use of annuities as a retirement strategy. The book begins with two important introductory sections defining insurance and determining your financial and protection needs, both of which are important to know before considering specific insurance options, as well as how the stages in life affect the needs. The book then provides an overview of each type of insurance, specific considerations (such as deductibles, types of coverage to consider, limitations, etc.), considerations for comparing and choosing coverages, and practical tips and strategies to save money and plan for the right coverage.
The author provides an excellent overview of each of the forms of protection, giving the reader specific, relevant chapters. The author provides examples involving people’s needs to make the concepts clearer for the reader to understand. The types of insurance are very comprehensive for most individuals’ needs: life insurance, health insurance, Medicare and supplemental insurance, disability and long-term care insurance, auto and home insurance, and renters and landlord insurance. There are additional chapters on maximizing benefits and minimizing costs, insurance claim navigation, and new areas of protection (including Blockchain Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Insurance, and Financial Wellness Programs). David Okonah provides an excellent reference guide to insurance and planning in his book, How to Make Insurance Work for You. Very highly recommended!
