I CAN Be Me by Miriam Laundry is a beautiful story for children with a good message of celebrating one’s individuality and appreciating the fact that being different from others is not a bad thing. Maria comes from a different country, which makes her look different. Her friends make fun of her at school and she slowly withdraw into a shell. As the story progresses and Maria gets to know her classmates better, she realizes that everyone is different and unique in their own way. Her project on the topic ‘Discovery’ revolves around this and she conveys an important lesson to everyone in the class through her project.

The topic is relevant and the author handles it with finesse and expertise, helping readers celebrate their individuality and empowering them to believe in themselves and their abilities. The illustrations are bright and breathe life into the characters and scenes, making the concept clear to readers. It’s a good storybook for interactive sessions in classrooms and school libraries, and is good for bedtime storytelling. All the characters are real, tangible, and relatable, and they remain in the hearts of readers for a long time.

Books like this are good for young readers to help them understand the concept, message, and idea easily and teach valuable lessons. This book will help children accept their differences and make them grow to become confident individuals who are responsible for themselves and their actions.
