In John W. Long's In the Name of the Father, a mysterious killer was following his victims in Fort Lauderdale. The killer believed they had to pay for their sins, and so the victims were tortured and marked with a cross on their foreheads. The killer was like a ghost. He left no DNA or evidence behind, and there were no witnesses. Detective Jack Johnson was going through a rough spell after his wife left him and was tasked with finding the killer. Because he was obsessed with his work, John started drinking excessively to cope with the anguish and misery he witnessed daily. John had to face and confront the demon that was endangering his marriage and career while he was hunting down the killer.
John W. Long's In the Name of the Father is an action-packed, fast-paced read. The story had a lot of brutality, resolve, and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. There was never a dull moment in the narrative, and I was hooked from the first to the very last word. It was a page-turner, and up until the very end, I had no idea what would come next and was left guessing. I felt for Frank because after his wife left him, his life took a turn for the worse, impacting his career. He missed talking to his wife about his work and getting her advice. The plot was masterfully crafted and executed. The ending was a big shock and unexpected and I did not see it coming.
