Interviews From Hell! by Lafayette E Tolliver takes us through a series of hypothetical interviews. Ron is an investigative reporter and has been given access to Hell, a privilege given to no-one else, to interview people who have found themselves there. Each person Ron interviews opens up, talking about their lives, what happened to cause them to wind up in Hell and not the Heaven they feel they deserve. Ron pushes and prods at them, pricking their consciences and enticing details from them they might not have wanted anyone else to know. But hey, they’re in Hell, damned for eternity so what else have they to lose? Just be sure that you have no secrets, be sure that you live a good life. Otherwise, one day, you might be the subject of one of Ron’s interviews.
Interviews From Hell! by Lafayette E Tolliver is a fascinating read. It has religious undertones, emphasizing the thought that all of us should stop seeing Hell as a fictional place where the bad guys go to roast but as a real place where those who sin receive their punishment. This book was a mixture of deadly serious and laugh-out-loud with some quite humorous moments in it. It’s clear that Tolliver has a vivid imagination and you can almost feel those fires burning as you find yourself spellbound by these interviews. But underneath the fictional side, there is a more serious tone to this – each story provides its own advice about life, and how not to live it. Advice on what not to do if you don’t want to end up in Hell. It’s a quick read but worth taking a couple of hours out on a rainy afternoon.
