Ivy’s Popsicle Dragon by Mr. Sun is a humorous children's book in which Ivy wakes up crying and startles her mom. Of course, her mom wants to know what is wrong, and when Ivy tells her about her “nightmare,” it isn’t what she is expecting. Ivy has been to Santa's Wintery Rainbow Candy Summer Retreat, where she had the best time of her life. She met a lovely popsicle dragon who showed her around the magical land full of vibrant colors, food, friendly animals, lots of goodies and gifts, and fun activities. To Ivy’s horror, she woke up, and it was only a dream.
Ivy is a funny and lovable character. I found how dramatic she became upon realizing it was only a dream very amusing. After her disappointment, the following morning she told her mom she dreamed of a rock. Fortunately, her mom was able to surprise and cheer her up by being creative. I thought it was admirable how well she recollected her dream. I think encouraging children to talk about the dreams they have could be a helpful bonding activity. I also enjoyed the rhyming sentences. The brevity of the sentences makes it easy for young readers to absorb the colorful illustrations and appreciate the beauty of Ivy’s Popsicle Dragon, which is the first book in the series. I enjoyed reading this book.
