What was Jesus like as a boy? Kimberley Gordon and her granddaughters Viviana Camille and Olivia Francine have created a series, Little Jesus, to answer some of those questions. In Little Jesus and the Lonely Puppy, Jesus and his parents are off to the market. Many vendors are selling their wares on the streets. As the family stops to buy the items they need, Jesus greets the shopkeepers and other children. He has a special connection with animals. Even as a child, there was something remarkable about him. As he waits for his parents with their donkey, Dabi, he finds a little puppy who seems abandoned. What will Jesus' parents say? Will he be able to keep the dog?
Little Jesus and the Lonely Puppy depicts what life would have been like during Jesus' youth. While the story is fictional, the actions give young readers a sense of what he might have been like as a boy. The illustrations by FolksnFables are filled with warm colors. Hidden in several spreads are Cham the Chameleon and Olee the Ladybug. As a former Sunday School teacher, I would have loved sharing these stories that make Jesus' life relatable to youngsters. This tale is not based on any biblical story but remains true to Jesus' nature and the times he grew up in. Kimberley Gordon, Viviana Camille, and Olivia Francine make a great team and have created a unique series. They have added some nice extras, including a map, a family tree, and an I Spy game. Little Jesus and the Lonely Puppy will bring Jesus' boyhood to life.
