Lost in the Park by Sabinah Oroge is a delightful adventure read for youngsters. Nine-year-old Richard is fascinated with Daniel Boone and reads and watches everything he can about him. He loves the idea of living in the forest and being like Daniel Boone. When Greg, his dad, announces that they are going on a camping trip in the National Forest, Richard is beside himself with excitement and even packs his backpack ten days before the trip, ensuring he includes some survival items. Greg, Susan, his mother, Richard and Bernard, his little brother, set off on their trip. As they travel to their destination through gorgeous scenery, young Richard has no idea of the adventure he is about to have!
Lost in the Park is a delightful, short and exciting read for young children. There are some gorgeous illustrations and the story is a fun adventure any child will enjoy. You can read this to your little ones and older children will enjoy reading it for themselves. I loved Richard's fascination with Daniel Boone, and the skills he learnt from simply reading and watching movies. I am a firm believer in children reading, and love the fact that Richard learnt so much from reading, which he was then able to put to good use to help himself and his brother. Books are certainly a wonderful way to learn things, and this wonderful tale shows us that books can be both fun and useful.
