Marsha goes to Haiti, written by Irvy Lindsey and illustrated by Dan Drewes, tells the story of a girl and her family traveling to Haiti to visit family members and the excitement that goes along with this adventure. Instead of Marsha’s grandparents and great-grandmother coming to visit her and her family, Marsha’s mother announces one night that the family is going to go to Haiti to see them and to see where Marsha’s mother grew up. Marsha is very excited, more so than her older brothers and this is all she talks about during the time leading up to the trip. Marsha also has many questions to ask as she is so curious about the trip and traveling to a new place. Marsha is able to sit by the window on the plane and is curious about everything on the way home from the airport. The family enjoys a nice dinner together and is looking forward to their vacation together.

Irvy Lindsey does a great job with capturing the curiosity and excitement that a young girl feels while preparing to go on a trip to a new place in Marsha goes to Haiti. Marsha is constantly asking questions which the rest of her family jokes about and her brother comments that his ears can rest when Marsha has fallen asleep on the airplane. However, I was expecting some of the book to be about the family’s experiences in Haiti and the book ended with their first evening there. Dan Drewes’ illustrations go along nicely with the text and are nicely done as well.
