Our planet is in need of our care and loving attention. We have taken advantage of its treasures for too long. Young people (as well as those young at heart) need to learn how to care for the world in which they will live, hopefully for many years. In S. mounu Riddell’s Mother Gaia Earth Rhymes, young people will learn through verses and lyrics about those who have championed the need for change, the need to take care of our greatest treasure: the planet we call home. The words follow the stories of those before us who have made a great impact on not just the natural world, but also those creatures who live within. The author honors people like Jane Goodall, Rachel Carson, and many others.
S. mounu Riddell’s book, Mother Gaia Earth Rhymes: For 21st Century Children of All Ages, is a Mother Goose-like treasury of rhymes that will spark the interest of readers of all ages. With delightful images to accompany each lyrical verse, this book is a profound and dedicated love song for the world we call home. The language is simple, making it easy for young readers to follow along and improve their reading skills. The book is laid out like a poetic journey through time and care, as the stories of others are shared for reflection as well as consideration of what can and should be done to protect our world and all who live within it. This is a great treasury for the classroom, for quality family time, or just to enjoy alone, one poetic journey at a time. This is just the beginning of a journey of eco-awareness and compassion.
