New York City A to Z by Kip Cosson is an extremely colourful and clever way to teach children the alphabet. The story takes a tour through New York with characters that children will relate to, such as C being Cool Cat in a Car at Columbus Circle, and E the Eager Elephants at the Empire State Building. It’s not only informative by literally taking a journey around New York, but it focuses the young reader’s mind on the alphabet letters. At the end of the book there is a great alphabet chart and a very clever interactive puzzle to get the young reader thinking about the alphabet letters and what they represent. The author, Kip Cosson, has also illustrated the book with colourful representations of the places visited and the characters created.

Kip Cosson has created an extremely well thought out book which will help young children with their alphabet and also with their numbers as they can use the places visited to count to ten. Each letter represented in the illustration is highlighted to further add to the simple yet educational aspect. The young reader will really enjoy this book and not even realise they are being taught their alphabet. The book will also be ideal for a parent to read with a child and encourage the child to spot the alphabet letters. As well as all that, they get to learn about ten places of significance in the city of New York. A great classroom addition.
