Oh, Brother, Why Is He My Brother? by A. Law Shettleworth is a cute story about family. Katie thinks her brother Richard is so annoying. He is always bothering her. But when Katie loses her bracelet, Richard proves to be the best brother ever.
Oh, Brother, Why Is He My Brother? is a good story. It showed that siblings may get on your nerves at times, but they do help out when needed. Anyone who has a sibling can relate to this story. The illustrations by Chad Thompson are colorful and look professionally done. I liked that Richard was constantly looking out for Katie. Although Katie thought Richard was a pest, he really was just being a good brother. I also liked that Katie finally acknowledged that Richard was a good brother. This is a good example to show children. Letting someone know that you appreciate them is always a good thing.
I read this story with my four-year-old and she really enjoyed it. The words were mostly easy for her to read on her own. She does not have a brother, but after reading this story she is asking for one. This is the type of book that I would like my child to read. In fact, I could recommend it to a few adults that need a lesson in getting along with their siblings. It teaches people that by working together you can get stuff done. A. Law Shettleworth did a good job on this book and I hope to read more of her work in the future.
