Our children today, regardless of age, are growing up listening to adults talking about climate change, how it is affecting the environment, and what it means for our youngsters’ futures. Our Earth by Jane Calame clues them in easily without heady explanations and teaches them how they can help our beautiful planet at a very early age. Little things like turning off lights when you leave a room or pulling on an extra sweater if you’re cold instead of raising the thermostat will make a difference. Or that not forgetting to turn off the faucet all the way when you wash your hands really matters. Perhaps your child has heard the term “carbon footprint”? What does it mean? Our Earth suggests how each of us can reduce our carbon footprints.

I loved Our Earth by Jane Calame from the instant I looked at the beautiful illustration by Daniela Frongia that opened this delightful children’s book. What a superb way to immediately engage a youngster! I am not going to describe it because I want readers to see it for themselves. But rest assured, children will instantly relate to it and be keen to see and read more. Through wonderful illustrations and simple rhymes, Our Earth teaches children how each of them can help tomorrow’s world… their future world… today. It emphasizes how important their roles are and shows how they can be heroes by taking care of our planet in small but very important ways. This book belongs not only on your child’s bookshelf but in every primary school classroom. Such a clever and colorful way to help youngsters understand the importance of protecting planet Earth.
