Quod Nidifene: Protector by Brianna Bloomdahl is a supernatural story revolving around the Lanxes, a family of trained Protectors. Protectors have a code: the first is never to kill a human and the second is to protect humans at all costs. Moses and Michel are Protectors-in-training. Although a human can’t be a Protector unless they’re eighteen, seventeen-year-old Moses still joins his brother as they venture out to kill their first-ever vampire: a boy who used to go to their school, Theodore ‘Ted’ Hiller. However, what should have been the straightforward kill of a young and inexperienced vampire turns complicated when their target sets his sights on human prey, Vanessa Clamor. Now, the Lanxes must not only hunt down a vampire who continues to evade them and shows up at the most unexpected times, but they must also protect Vanessa, the victim who gets a rude awakening to the world of the supernatural.
Once I finished Quod Nidifene: Protector, the first thing I said was, “Oh wow, this is seriously amazing!” Brianna Bloomdahl has created an action-packed, immersive story with noteworthy characters and an absorbing plot. The more I read, the deeper I became absorbed in the story especially with the protector-supernatural backstory, the amazing plot twists, and the interesting characters. I really appreciated how Moses took the time to explain the Protector roles and the vampires’ history to Nessa. His explanation was simple to follow and it answered most of my pressing questions. As I read further, I wanted to know more about the three vampire bloodlines, the past of the Slayer, and the history of the Protectors’ weapons. By the time I finished the story (and shouted myself hoarse in cheering for the Lanxes as they fought against two vampires) I was already clamoring for more! I wonder about the mysterious Slayer and about what will happen to Vanessa after everything she went through. Bloomdahl spun an intricate web of intrigue and a fascinating storyline and I am caught in its grasp, dazed with wonder. I found this book to be distinctive, exciting, and terrific. This was truly unforgettable!
