Ridge: Day One is the first novel in the Ridge series by Shawn P. B. Robinson. A town protected from Beasts by its high walls is in danger of a rude awakening. People living in Ridge don’t grow older than thirty-four, and General Rezin is an anomaly. Forty-four years old and still in perfect health, Rezin lives to protect the people of Ridge. His world comes crashing down when the people of Ridge shun him. He must earn his honor back. Leaving his beloved Ridge to find answers, Rezin is not ready to face the outside. The high walls of Ridge hide many secrets, even from an influential person like Rezin. What will Rezin do when he uncovers the secrets? Will he fight for what he believes in, or will he fight for his honor?

Ridge: Day One by Shawn P. B. Robinson is an epic dystopian fantasy with a heavy dose of action. I love how the author builds the story and creates action scenes. With his strong opinions, Rezin Hamel is a realistic and complex character. Honor plays a significant role in the story, and his loss of respect affects him. The contrast between Ridge and Olmos, their cultural differences, their diverse customs, their dialogue, and their linguistics are intricate and well-thought-out elements of the storyworld. The author did a fantastic job of building the storyworld, and you can tell a lot of research went into the writing of this story. Ridge: Day One is a brilliant start to a fascinating series!
