Rock Bottom by CJ Smith is a crime drama that will leave you breathless. James Rocker retires from the Milwaukee PD after 25 years of service and dreams of living out the rest of his days in peace. That’s not going to happen. The Sericos are one of the leading crime families in Chicago and they have decided to move to Milwaukee. Money laundering and drugs are their game and things seem to be rocking along quite nicely. Until they murder a friend of Rocker. Then all hell breaks loose. While Rocker is fighting to protect the daughter of his dead friend, the Department of Justice in Wisconsin is busy tracking the mob and, at the same time, Rocker has two hired killers on his tail. This isn’t going to be pretty when all three clash in one almighty head-on. Someone has to come out of this alive but who will it be?

Rock Bottom by CJ Smith was a pretty thrilling read. I must admit to putting it down the first time I looked at it, but I opted to give it a second chance and I’m glad I did. The story is well woven and runs true, with no unnecessary side shots to it. The characters are believable, the plot is solid, and the story winds its way to a conclusion naturally. There were plenty of twists and turns in it and this is not one of those books where the ending is obvious right from the start. It’s a book that, once you get into it, hooks you and draws you through it, not letting go until the curtain falls. You won’t regret reading it; I know I didn’t!
