In Roman Is Bigger, written by DJ Stutz and illustrated by Nadiia Kolpak, Harley is Roman’s dog, and they make quite a pair of best friends. When describing his dog, Roman discovers that big just doesn’t cover the size of his furry pal. Roman is always looking for words that fit each situation he finds himself in. When he is upset over Harley chewing up his favorite toy, his anger is much bigger than what he originally thought it was. When Harley runs away, Roman is much more than just sad. Can he find the words that really describe how he feels? Can using the correct term to explain how he feels help Roman or does the term he uses matter at all?

Roman Is Bigger is an adorable story that will help young readers learn how to express their emotions better and find the words to describe them accurately. The characters in the book are easy to relate to as they go through some situations that kids might find themselves in that might trigger an emotional response. I love how this story encourages kids to express how they feel and how the adults are understanding and helpful. The illustrations are beautiful and add some colorful fun to the story. I recommend Roman Is Bigger by DJ Stutz to young readers who are ready to learn how to respond to their own emotions in a positive way and learn the correct words to explain how they are feeling.
