Author Biography

The author has filled many roles in life: as a nurse tech for senior care, a yeoman in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, an artist in acrylics and pastels, and as a healthcare risk manager. She never predicted that her writing hobby would be recognized someday; it was merely a way to escape stress in the work-world.

Her first nationally published story for Country magazine changed that and put her on a road to create her biography/ family history, Ohio Girl and five new fiction novels...so far.

“People we meet in life teach us the value of the human spirit – and in each person, good or bad, there is something we learn as they cross our paths. That’s why I write stories about our power to push through the negatives of life. Perhaps someday people will say that I write about what I believe in – that will be enough for this writer.” Linda J Pifer

In Sandpiper Run by Linda J. Pifer, 24-year-old Sunnie Reynolds has been having the same nightmare over and over since she was 10 due to a suppressed memory. The dream always ends before Sunnie could figure out what it means and her therapy sessions fail to expose the rest of it. She's been in and out of psych rehab for years because of sleep deprivation and stress. Nevertheless, Sunnie manages to live her life working at a realtor company. When a lucrative job requires Sunnie to take a trip to the Gulf coast of Florida, she finds a property at a location rich with history and an attractive artist-cum-handyman Steve Evans. She takes a chance to explore the place despite her fear and finds something unexpected; the mysterious shack from her dream. Does she finally find an answer to end her nightmare and what secrets does the place hold?

Sandpiper Run's strength is its intriguing premise that no doubt will keep readers curious about the protagonist's dream. Other than a dose of romance, psychological fear is a dominant element in the story. The plot has a steady pace as we follow a young woman who's trying to live a life burdened with a nightmare that causes other fears to manifest and stay within her psyche. When Sunnie did find the answer to her predicament, the root cause was much closer to home than she expected. The story highlights how amazing but also how fragile the mind is after experiencing a traumatic event, especially the one that belongs to a child. All in all, this is a solid, swift read from Pifer.
