Author Biography

I can’t say I was ever the voracious reader that most authors seem to have been in their youth. Don’t get me wrong, I read, now more than ever, and if I find a book I love I will devour it and then feel the pangs of disappointment when it’s over, wishing it had lasted just that little bit longer. But it wasn’t the reading that made me want to write, it was my endless wandering imagination. Having never been the extrovert, my stories were always my best kept secrets, my own private amusements.

After obtaining a degree in Psychology, I have had a varied career in jobs that were predominately in the education, local government and justice sectors.

It wasn’t until ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) starting pulling my life apart that I started to write. As you would expect, being so new to writing, beautiful prose didn’t leap off the page. After a while and a bit more practice they still weren’t beautiful but they became exciting and I managed to finish a novel worth reading.

Between writing and creating jewellery (check out http://www.wanderinglost.co.nz) I found some enjoyment in life again. And this is where my story begins. I’m 35 years old and finally ready to take my place in the world.

Set the Sky on Fire is an exceptionally well written young adult paranormal adventure tale. This exciting novel by Louise Walker starts in Seattle, Washington, in the year 1892, but the action swiftly moves to Christchurch, New Zealand, of our time. There are two sets of aliens from two different worlds currently sharing Earth with us. One group is good and determined to help us while the other is bad and determined to help us self-destruct. The medium or weapon in this struggle for Earth’s fate is emotions. Ari is special. She can sense other people’s emotions very strongly. Strongly enough that it’s almost as if she’s reading minds. Nate is a Sentinel, a good guy who is here to help prevent the Seethers from ruining Earth. He rescues Ari from a Seether attack and, despite him being an alien, they become close. It doesn't hurt that he’s drop dead gorgeous.

Set the Sky on Fire has it all. The thrill of young love, the tragedy of young deaths, and enough narrow escapes for any fan of fast paced adventure. I enjoyed that there is a bigger picture than just young love. The fate of humanity is in the hands of people trying to be good, trying to be unselfish, and wanting a better world for everyone. Ms Walker has created great characters, both good and bad. This struggle between good and evil has been going on for over 300 years and there are many more adventures to come.
