Shadowed Age: The Heroine, Volume 1 by Bo Blackstar takes us into a fantasy world, a lusty dark world with an elf quest. In the age of twilight, the benevolent gods become distant figures as they withdraw into their celestial realms and, as they leave, the world falls deeper into darkness. All of those with darkness in their hearts begin to feel the call to act upon their darker urges. Young elf Cleome Correlia sets out in this darkness on a quest to hone her skills. A note from an ancient order sends her on a secretive path where she will learn things about the wider world outside of her home vale.

The first thing I must say about this book is that it is not for the faint of heart. It has many shadowy corners and twists you won't see coming. But whoever said that it was a bad thing to be something that isn't for the faint of heart? It is a very good thing in the case of this book as the book and the darkness both draw you in. Elf Cleome has her eyes opened very wide and the reader will go on this journey with her and therefore open their eyes as well. The world created in this story is well done and the characters are well layered; they are interesting and you want to become invested in the events going on because of that. The pacing for me was a little bit slow, but the content of the story makes up for that overall. There is action, darkness and erotic content - a little something for everyone. If you are looking for an interesting and very different (in a good way) kind of book, I would highly recommend Shadowed Age for you.
