I love it when I can find a children's book that REALLY captures my kids' attention. Both my boys loved this author and her work...especially since we had such a crazy winter this year! They did have a couple of snow days, so it would have been fantastic to have had this book on those days. Sadly, we didn't; but we made the most of this book anyway, even though there is no more snow nor snow days coming any time soon.
Ms. Hamilton really had kids in mind when she created Snow Day. Let's say that our favorite part here was the fact that two of her characters had the same name as me and one of my sons. That alone had the hearts of my kids interested. When it snows, my kids tend to like to stay warm and cozy inside watching TV. I try to encourage them to bundle up and enjoy the day, but alas, they over rule. With Snow Day, however, Ms. Hamilton shows them what fun it can be to be outside in the fresh snow. We live with my parents, so reading this book to them showed them that grandparents can be fun in the snow, too!
This is the perfect book to read to kids, young and old alike! It shows them the meaning of family and having fun without needing all the TVs, computers or hand-held games. Also, the pictures the illustrator created were phenomenal for the story! They were bright and vibrant and really capture the young readers' attention.
This is definitely a 5-star book that I would recommend to librarians and parents. It is fun to read even when the snow is gone and the heat of summer is in full swing! Well done, Ms. Hamilton!
