Stumbling Through The Dark: A Husband and Wife's Final Year of Life Together is written by Thelma Zirkelbach. This book gives a front row view of a husband and wife's final moments together; a story of a married couple's journey down the road of terminal illness. The story is very deep and emotionally written, a page-turner, with emotional twists, heartbreaking moments, and incredible moments of confidence or heroism.
As Ralph ventures towards a battle with an incredibly difficult disease to cure, the author, Thelma Zirkelbach allows her readers to feel as though they are experiencing this whole ordeal right along with her. The text is so emotional, honest, compassionate, and very grief stricken, telling not only of her husband's journey but also her own journey to being more independent and fearless after a great loss.
This book is an incredible read. I enjoyed reading it, not necessarily because of the topic, as it is very sad, but because of the way Thelma Zirkelbach was able to take such a great tragedy in her life and put it on paper for others to read, share and relate her loss to their own. It is a great piece to help a person cope, heal, and give strength to when suffering. The book was written in such great and vivid detail it was as though I was watching a movie, not reading a book. A great book for those who are suffering, or have had similar scenarios of dealing with illness, loss, finding your faith in between, and the transition from being married to being alone.
