Taken to the Stage by Mimi Kennedy is a memoir where she shares the lessons, mistakes, and challenges she encountered as an actress. Growing up, she performed at her local community theater, where her mother had enrolled her in the children’s acting class. After high school, she enrolled at Smith University, which stated that no freshman was to attend acting classes. Luckily, as aggressive as Mimi was, she pleaded her way, got accepted, and wowed Mr. John Fisher, their lecturer. After graduating, she moved to New York with only one agenda: succeeding in her acting career. She had to work extra hard and attend every audition. Despite the harsh treatment and sexual harassment she encountered from her bosses, she pushed hard. Her hard work paid off, and she got a role in a Non-Equity play. Her next plan was to be assigned to an agency, which seemed daunting. Does she get an agency? What other challenges does she go through before she can attain her goals?

Mimi Kennedy is a real-life example of what goes on in the entertainment industry. She discloses how people backslide by losing themselves to get jobs and go through lipo-suctioning and face-tucking to stay beautiful. For a reader aspiring to become an actor or actress, this information will help them understand how to maneuver if faced with these circumstances. Mimi’s determination and aggressiveness are positive aspects that readers should learn from and adapt to. These qualities will enable them to attain whatever goals they set for themselves. Taken to the Stage will be appreciated by aspiring actors and actresses in the entertainment industry since they will learn from Mimi’s successes, mistakes, and lessons to become the best versions of themselves.
