In Tammy’s Secrets by Miriam Ratzker, readers are introduced to Tammy who is all excited about starting school. She is in first grade and she has been thinking about her first day in school. She has spent days thinking about it, dreaming about teachers and schoolbags, playing teacher with her dolls. Her parents have already bought her a schoolbag, pencil case, and many other things, and their neighbors and friends know she will do well. Tammy’s teacher is friendly and kind and talks like her mom, but Tammy starts feeling confused. She complains to her mom that she cannot organize her things the way they should be. Her mother introduces Tammy to the House of Wonders and takes her there. Will Tammy be able to organize her things the ways she wants them to be after that?

The story is delightful, Tammy’s character is real and relatable, and many parents and children will identify with her condition. The concept of the House of Wonders is interesting and will help children become more organized. The illustrations make the story even more fascinating and colorful to readers. It is a good bedtime storybook and can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms as it handles a topic that is helpful to children who are starting school. The concept is good and will help parents guide their children to become organized when it comes to their schoolbag, arranging the pencil box contents, following the bell’s signal and more.
