In The Adventures of Tippy Tappy: The Lost Peanut by Nicole Marie Maniedeo and Amanda Louise Sajous, a gray squirrel, Mrs. Graytail, has lost her prized peanut. She had buried it safely beneath the willow tree, but now it’s gone. Tippy Tappy, the dog, and Inspector Brownfeather, the rooster, made the best detective team at Bramble Wood Farm. They were on the case instantly and tracked the path that led them to the culprit. The only thing is, the culprit thought he’d just found the peanut. How could he make it right as he had no intention of stealing from Mrs. Graytail?
Nicole Marie Maniedeo and Amanda Louise Sajous’s picture book, The Adventures of Tippy Tappy, is the first in a series of children’s stories about the animals of Bramble Wood Farm. The story is short, but follows a distinct plot, introducing the various animal characters along the way. The dialogue is brief but used effectively and the mystery is solved with ease. The animals all get along with one another and they are great friends, always looking out for the others on the farm. Another key point is the importance of being honest and owning up to your mistakes. The language is simple for young readers to follow easily and the bright, bold, colorful illustrations certainly help move the story forward. At the end of the book are some interactive and educational exercises, including an alphabet page, a search for the hidden images, and pages where young readers can color the pictures of the characters in the story. Get to know the animals on the farm while enjoying a little bit of sleuthing.
