"The Adventures of Tolei Mergen" by Suzanne L. Popke, set against the backdrop of Siberia, is an adventure story of Tolei Mergen and the tales he has to tell on his trip to Buryatia, a place in Siberia. The story is about Tolei Mergen and his friend Gray Horse's travel to the Silver Mountains to free the former's mother from the monster Mangadhai. I found the book pretty interesting. It introduces children to an unknown place Buryatia in Siberia. The culture of Buryats emerges in front of the children while reading the book. The book is also educational. It is a good way to introduce new places and culture to children. That makes their learning a fun process. Many details of the culture, tradition, and life in Siberia are described beautifully in the book.

The book is written by American author Suzanne L. Popke for her Buryat children. It is obvious from the story that the author wants to share her experiences with the reader and to throw more light on the Buryats and on Siberian culture. The book is endearing and the illustrations are very cute. Children require such books to expand their knowledge. The activity pages in the book are again a great thing. It makes the children read and look at the pictures in the book with a lot of concentration. It motivates and encourages a child to read and comprehend better. The activity pages cover both drawing and the reading part, which is an excellent aspect of the book. I applaud the author for writing this book because it is educational even for adults.
