The Best Sauce Recipes Ever! opens with a brief discussion of the importance of sauces to cooking and the history of their uses and origins. Kyle Richards provides a handy Table of Contents, making the book easy to use. He then identifies the basic types of sauces and the importance of using them wisely and proportionally. He notes how easy it is to make a good sauce, then sets out recipes for a wide variety of sauces, including cocktail sauces, gravies, barbecue sauces, butters, and even fruit and dessert sauces. A home chef looking for a source for a wide variety of sauces will not be disappointed.
While most of the recipes provided by Kyle Richards in The Best Sauce Recipes Ever! would make an amount appropriate for an average family meal, some recipes could be used to prepare sauces for large groups. The ingredients are common and the instructions easy to follow. Richards also provides some alternatives for basic sauces. The types of sauces provided run the gamut from sweet to savory, to those used for seafood, to those appropriate for desserts. I would have enjoyed added information about the foods with which some sauces would be wisely paired. Also, some personal stories of family or friends enjoying meals, marketplaces to find unusual ingredients and/or information about specific ingredients would have made this work more personal and insightful. Even so, for the home chef seeking a quick reference of sauces using minimal ingredients and easy instructions, Kyle Richards has provided just that in The Best Sauce Recipes Ever!
